Closing on land in a week then we’ll begin the home designing process. I would not be considering luxury vinyl but I recent been in a home that had it install and I was shocked at how good it looked and felt.
Hardwood is still the preferred option for us, but we have discussed installing vinyl as an alternative which would allow us to have some more room in our budget for some of the add ons we would like.

I’m aware of the main pros and cons but what do those with experience dealing with LVT/LVP have to say?

I'm about to make an order to replace my entire laminate floor with Helios by Nexxacore. It's quiet, solid, feels and looks great, and is easy to install. Was looking at engineered wood but it can't beat the ease of ownership and maintenance features of LVP. Opt for SPC instead of WPC if you can.

I'm moving from a house with engineered wood floors. I loved how they looked at first but I hate them now. Marks, dings, scratches. We had the choice of flooring in the new house and there isnt a scrap of wood floors in the new one. All LVP

Same here. Every square inch of the house has them. Very happy with them.

Thanks everyone for your input. It’s definitely something I’m considering.

If you go with this make sure to visqueen under the LVT. It hasn't been widespread but I have had some issues with it. Without visqueen, humidity/sweat under the floor can get in the seams. In the high traffic areas, the seams can crack from the pressure when the moisture get in. Remember LVT bottom side is very hard and can be brittle. Wood and laminate floors are much softer on the underneath.

There's a few options for moisture barriers / underlayment. Even if there's an "underlayment" on the plank itself, you still need a moisture barrier. The floor I pulled up had visqueen. I'll be putting this down for my LVP floor.

Just put wood.

You can put wood and deal with the nicks and dings and scratches (aka character) like someone pointed out or you can put fake wood that looks like fake wood while continuously trying to convince yourself and anyone it’s better than real wood until you change it.
