That is probably it. I used to go to the theatre almost weekly. As I got older it has reduced significantly, I think it’s been over 4 years since I went. A couple of things have contributed to that, I have surround sound and a subwoofer at my house, and I got tired of getting ripped off on concessions and ticket prices for a mediocre experience.

Looking back the only theatre experience I’m glad I got to experience was opening night of The Phantom Menace. People were dressed up, they had trucks setup with TVs playing the original trilogy, the showing was at midnight, it was the almost like a game time experience generated by the fan base that you would expect if your team was playing in the super bowl and you were there. It was a spectacle. Looking back it was great even though the movie was terrible, but things like that are extremely rare.
