This is the worst aspect of modern parenting, IMO.
My parents never played sports with me. I don’t ever remember my old man doing any of that shite; the kids would all organize the games and we would play sports without parents. The ability of children to self regulate and manage themselves has all but eroded.

My situation is different. I don’t live in a neighborhood and there is no way for my kids to get to their friends without them either riding bikes on a major highway or me driving them. They can’t just decide to walk to the neighborhood park and play a pickup game.
I also have a boy and a girl so sometimes she wants to do gymnastics and all the time he wants to play tackle what ever moves, so that doesn’t mix.
My wife and I take up the slack sometimes when they each need to play without the other.
But you’re right, helicopter and bush hog parenting is severely delaying children’s development.

Your dad never threw the baseball or football with you? Never kicked your arse in pickup basketball?
