Nope. You are wrong. The shareholders are the ultimate authority. If Elon Musk can muster enough votes he can decide any company issue he wants. That is true of every corporation, statements by some Twitter flunkie notwithstanding.

He would simply tell the CEO what to do, and if the CEO refused he would fire him and put his own guy in.

Imagine Musk telling the board members, when I sell my 9.2% share and say that Twitter is no longer an investment worth holding for the long term, what do you think is going to happen to your stock? Adding Trump brings 100 million eyeballs to our site. That is good for business. Save your political posturing for others. We are a business. Pure and simple.
