IMO, “iconic” doesn’t necessarily mean best or favorite. To me, it means prestigious and recognizable. There are countless paintings more impressive than the Mona Lisa, for example, but none are more iconic.
In that respect, I would have to go with Jaws or Star Wars.
Jaws is pushing 50 and yet I think tons of people (even a lot of teenagers) would recognize the opening notes of the main title. And the greatness of the score had a profound impact on the greatness of the movie. The music was the shark for most of the film.
Star Wars is such a huge, multigenerational franchise that the main title that plays at the opening crawl of every movie has to be in there by default - and it’s great music too.
