If he does, he'll be dragging himself on the ground across the finish line. No chance he would run for re-election, or get the nomination.

This is why he won’t last a full term. They need the incumbent president (And the advantages that come with that )to run so look for him to be replaced after midterms and the mess they made will be pinned on him alone.
