“jobs" from big companies typically aren't how people afford houses that cost that much, in any city
I have a “job” from a big company, as does my husband. Our home was a hair over $1 million.

You can ask this question about any place in the country. $750k houses used to be considered extremely expensive, but now it seems they’re a dime a dozen in every market. The housing craze is just weird to me, as I don’t know what people do these days to afford such things

I live uptown. My house is 110 years old and obviously we have maintenance issues and a huge electric bill. We are close to Audubon Park and it is quite charming. But I hate saying anything in New Orleans is walkable, because I generally don’t walk places because I don’t want to get killed.

This is an irrational fear for someone who lives near Audubon Park. Unless you consider near to be within a half mile and you live in Hollygrove.

This is where the old/new Copeland house is located, right ? That area’s always been nice, and seems a logical place to build expensive new homes . ETA or was his house west of Bonnabel ?
His house is at transcontinental and the lake. Way west of bonnabel

That’s kinda the point. Most bucktown starter homes ($270k+) are tear downs due to condition and size. Which is driving a lot of new construction development in the area.
If your budget is $500k but want something bigger than 1,500 sq ft, you’ll have more options in LV.
I do find the walkability in LV to be somewhat overstated. I lived in LV for 10 years and rarely walked to places listed (pharmacy, grocery, mail services lol) other than coffee shops and CC. The restaurant scene overall is pretty underwhelming. Bucktown could use a coffee shop though.

Bucktown has a Puccino's on Lake Ave

Could be wrong but I thought that one closed like two years ago. A French Truck by Mr Ed’s would be perfect

the Bucktown area has gotten pretty run down
WTF are you talking about? Not sure when was the last time you were there, but Bucktown (West Esplanade to the Lake, 17th Street Canal to Bonnabel) has become the new "Old Metairie" with tear-downs galore.
Proximity/access to the Lake, and relatively higher elevation (closer to the "lip of the bowl") are prime factors in this.

Getting better all the time. Nothing earth shattering but some solid places have come along.

I’d agree w that. Juniors, Pizza Domenica and Celtica are all nice additions. The best restaurant in that little area is still in bucktown though haha

OK. Where between vets, bonnabel. West esplanade and the canal is an oak lined street.
Sena Drive:
Obviously an exception to the norm, but when the original houses were built back in the early 60s or so the developer must have planted all those oaks between the sidwalk and the street. It's almost TOO shady.

Station 6 is strong. Lakeview has a great mix though. Sushi, Mexican, Italian, Burgers, Pizza, etc...

I walk plenty around town. Been killed 8 times already.

The investment market destroyed affordable housing. The average homebuyer is competing against corporations.

None of those are even over $500k. Now go across the canal and find anything as nice as those for $350k that also has restaurants, shopping, and parks within walking/biking distance.
None of those are in walking distance to anything though

3 of those are an easy walk to Harrison. Very easy.
