The long-awaited tapas venue opened in the CBD...its the same people who own Dakota and Cuvee.

I know its early, but has anyone been yet?

I usually let the kinks work out for a month or two, but this one may be an exception.

I dont really understand why people love Tapas places... yeah you get to try a bunch of different things but I always leave hungry and with really empty pockets...

Tapas restaurants give generally unadventurous eaters the chance to overpay to feel like they have been adventurous.

I have never left hungry from Rio Mar...

I personally like trying many different things when I go to a restaurant.

I like the small plates at Herbsaint and Cochon for this reason.

I often make a meal out of several apps when i go somewhere so I can try several different items.

i think i just got tired of the douchebag clientele at a lot of the tapas places that popped up on every corner of many major cities over the last 3-5 years....often times eating uninspiring food and acting like it is the best thing on earth b/c it's "cool". It reminds of the flavored martini bar phenomenon.

I have seen too many tapas places that look at it as a chance to overcharge for small portions b/c it's "hip", rather than use the menu as a canvas for a creative chef.

A get Tapas place will not screw you over on price/qty, etc.

I love trying smaller portions of different food. Sometimes I just order a soup and two appetizers when dining out for that reason, but to me a nice Tapas place will have better options than your typical restaurant appetizer menu does.

i agree, but there seem to be far more bad tapas places than good ones in my experience.

Now, it's still a pretty new concept to the relatively homogenous NOLA dining scene, so maybe this place will do it right.

I agree, it can def. be tough to get away from the trendy crap el tigre. Much like some of the hip new wine bars that open up, where it is almost nothing about good wines at reasonable prices. Just a place to go look cool.

Baru (Uptown on Magazine) does a great tapas menu. Its Latin American/Caribbean cuisine. They also do not have a liquor license so you can bring your own.

With friends like you, I am surprised I have gotten anywhere in life.

ETA: Visions was an awful idea...and I blame you mostly.

We went today for lunch. Pretty good. I had the grilled burger. It's mixed in house with some type of pork. Very solid.

Apparently they are getting their liquor license today. So I'm going to go back one night in the near future and try the tapas and white rijoa.
