Man do I miss the multiple blitz schemes with bump and run coverage that Saban and Muschamp used to bring. I miss being able to look forward to watching our defense line up against any offense in the country. I miss seeing the coaches getting are team in a circle and hittin them on the chest to pump them up. I miss the attacking style of defense that the rest of the SEC feared when they played LSU. Its depressing to see that after only 4 years that seems like such a distant memory. Not to mention that when ESPN showed the defensive performance against OU this past week it made me want it back even more. Before you guys flame about me not being a true fan or a "Saban fan" know I am a tiger fan that just misses what helped us make a name for ourselves.

And yet you have a picture of Les Miles.

Listen, under Saban and Muschamp we got are shite packed in on the road a couple of times as well.

Thanks for the comments after the fact. Gotta love hindsight.

I'd take any of Pelini's defenses right now. I gottat believe that, unless the defense makes a big comeback vs Georgia and Bama, that Miles will make the change at defensive cordinator.

Did I say I had a problem with Miles? Les is a classy guy and a good offensive mind(better than Saban). However, a smart LSU fan would be lying if they said they didn't miss Saban/Muschamps defense.

the perfect team would be miles type o with the saban/muschamp d.

i agree I love les and he has corrected all his mistakes so far. the co dc mistake is the biggest one yet so lets see how he corrects it.

I do agree though it was nice to know the d would show up and play. The only game i can remember our d not showing up at all was that 04 uga game.

The UGA game is the exception and people will be overly optimistic and say that but its also the fact that we are letting people like MSU score 24 on us. I miss the 5 sack two interception 14 points allowed on only 220 yards kind of games. Oh ya, those were against good teams.

No I was saying that we had a bad game vs. UGA that year but we would also have games where we would dominate on defense against good teams. I was saying we have games like I described against bad teams now, but back then we would have those stats against good teams. That had nothing to do with the 2004 UGA team.

I agree 100%
I would not want to trade Miles 4 any Coach..because in most games the team reflects his intensity......But the aggressive style/multiple blitzing defense is the MISSING LINK with this team...

indeed im for LES!!! he was the right hire atLSU if for nothing else LOYALITY....but and we will find out this week what the team is made out of...coaches can only do so much...they coach the are not out there playing....florida's line of scrimmage on both sides whipped our a$$...point blank and that is something that i didnt think would happen this year

I love Miles. But the post's right, this defense doesn't hold a candle to the ones we put on the field several years ago. And, he's right again, there's no life, no intensity in this defense. It's really sad for any LSU fan to see our defense deteriorate to this sorry state.

2 words....
ED ORGERON

he was the top recruiter at miami for jimmy johnson in he 90s and he was usc's top recruiter which brought that program back to the top....plus the guy knows how to coach a defensive line and get the guys fired up to play

he is from the area (cut off) so he has ties with many of the top high school coaches and he knows how to get the top prospects

i have been a member for a few years but do not post often. i could not agree more with crazy4lsu statements. no adjustments were made on defense. why are we changing our style of defense that has worked and been ranked in the top 10 for the last 7 years??? we need to bring back the heat. this seems to be a common observation but 2 people who make a ton of $$$ can't see the same thing??? pressure makes the secondary better.

Boy, the Saban nostalgia is just flowing today. It was only a matter of time.

it was somewhat a different era though...their schemes worked very well in pro-set, drop back offenses with 2 wide receivers in the pattern. Today, it's not out of the ordinary to have 4 or 5 receivers out, and teams are just as likely to pass or run out of any formation. You can't just get by on 2 lockdown corners and 8 men rushing the passer. Tebow makes it more difficult with that little hesitation "play action" he was doing on pass plays the other day.

I know coaches will say, "we are protecting our corners" but damn we have just as much talent in the secondary as anyone in the country. Thats a BS statement because teams like Ole Miss and even BAMA dont have as much talent in their respected defensive backfields, but they benefit off of the system. There is a fine line between being conservative and being a pussy defense. I am afraid that we are slowly crossing that line.
