These so called scholars are trained in West. They are funded by American funding.
Not main stream. I check his Weibo (the Chinese twitter). Looks like articles from his account are blocked.
Unlike US, China do not use scholars to tell outsider what the gov. is thinking. You need to read China Daily or watch CCTV, the official newspaper and TV to get it.
As a big country, when the strategy is set, China does not change til the world changes.
It is no brainier for China or Turkey or other third world countries (India, Brazil, Mexico etc) to support Russia. Without Russia, US and the West will dominant the world. This will make life harder for all of the countries that are not in US camp.

You are reading quote from these scholars in New York Times etc is because these are the people that West Media can reach inside China.
The scholars and journalists are trained in the same schools usually ivy league schools and Standford. They chat and drink beers in the weekend together.
