moving light fixture to center over new a vanity

installed a larger vanity than the previous one, so now the light is slightly off center. less than 2" to the right. My concern is that if I move the junction box to center, half of it would still be in the old hole. Didn't know how secure I would be able to make it in this situation. Wasn't sure the best option here. Thoughts?

If the stud is to the right, then 2” is going to be difficult.

Instead of moving the box, you could install a decorative board that centers on the vanity and then attach the light directly to the central board. I did this at my home, used some good paint-grade wood, and used a router to cut the edges to a pattern that fit the decor.

This is what I would do.

Do nothing for a month. IMO.... after that time, I don't think will notice a 2" off center.
