900 hours over 3 years is NOT a hard used engine for a charter guy. There's residential guys that fish a lot especially offshore that do that.

You if you fish 200 days a year at 4 hours run time a day that's 800 hours. Some charter boats will do 2000 hours a year.

Given all that as said, a lot of weekend fisherman may not put 100 hours a year on a motor.

yeah that what everyone told me too and mine had 300 hours lol.

Get the extended warranty and flush that mfer with salt X every trip, and replace those mfering internal anodes every damn year. Replace head gaskets etc in about 3 to 4 years

Outboards are weird mfers they do better when run a lot

Hard to beat yam 300. Arguably one most bullet proof motors made imo. Heck my 2019 300 zuke has probably well over 100 plus hours idle from overnighters. Has 400 hour. As long aa he kept up with regular maintenance every 100 hours should be good to go. Better than 100 hours and sitting idle for a year or so.

I can't speak to that particular hull but I have a 2018 Yamaha F300 on my bay boat. With 600+ hours its been flawless with regular maintenance. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a used charter boat provided it was priced accordingly and I knew that going into it.

As someone else mentioned, I'd verify with a Yamaha dealer that the warranty is transferable when it has been in used as a charter boat.

My warranty defines the warranty as 3 years for pleasure use (most dealers extend to 5) and for "Commercial Application" One (1) year from date of purchase. A commercial use is any use of the outboard motor to generate income (excluding tournament fishing) or support business operations in any way during the warranty period without regard for the type of percentage of commercial use.

Here's a link to the warranty info I found online. Its on p. 112.
