I almost forgot that today was the anniversary. We lost a man's man, the Man In Black, The Intimidator, a true racer, and tGOAT. NASCAR lost it's heartbeat.
Dale was the Last Cowboy. RIP to the GOAT of GOATS.

The GOAT at turning cars around to get victories. I liked Dale ok, but some of the shite he did wasn't racing.

The thing that rubbed everyone the wrong way was that a lot of people thought Dale "stole" Ricky Rudds ride with Childress.

He was a champion for the sport of NASCAR, it’s been in a decline since he died.

I can't deny that. A lot of people left when he passed. I will say that some of the decline NASCAR has had is self inflicted.

Richard Petty was the GOAT. Jeff Gordon was the greatest of the era. Earnhardt got a big death dump in popularity. One of the best and most well known drivers. Not THE best and most well known. And widely despised.

For me (not a NASCAR fan), Earnhardt's biggest contribution to racing is that after his death, interest in the HANS device took off, and within 2-3 years all the major race series required it. Dozens of lives have been saved at the top level, and maybe hundreds of lives have been saved at all levels of racing.

Hubbard recalls that throughout the 1990s, only 250 or so units were sold. But following Dale Earnhardt’s death in the 2001 Daytona 500, 250 HANS devices were sold in one week. Today, most race-sanctioning organizations require drivers to wear these lifesavers, and more than 140,000 have been sold worldwide.

David Pearson was the real GOAT.

This is off base on so many levels...
First, Petty wasn't better than Earnhardt, Pearson, or Gordon. Hell maybe even DW, but definitely the first 3 And I actually have Pearson 1A to Dale's 1B. He was that damn good. Petty had the benefit of having more $$$ than anyone, thus, he could run 60 races a year while most others ran half of that. If Pearson and the Wood Brothers had had the finances that the Pettys did, he would have 300+ wins and 8-10 titles. The 3 years that he d did run the full schedule he won the title all 3 . That's not a coincidence. That's how good that man was.
And Dale was the most widely respected driver in the garage. Look no further than pit road after he won the 500 in '98.

Preach it, stranger on the internet. The Silver Fox is the true GOAT.
I looked it up. Pearson has a higher win and top 10 percentage than Petty, Earnhardt, Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson.

This guy doesn't get enough credit. He had the most victories in the modern era (Winston Cup, RJ Reynolds sponsored) until Gordon came along.
