Non-existant market, as the 5.0 cummins proved.

It is hard to get anyone to pay that high of a premium for a diesel in a half ton. Like was said the market is not there, but a less expensive torque monster with "better fuel economy" is what there is a market for right now. If you truly need a 5L diesel, you truly need more than a 1/2 ton anyway.

I say "better fuel economy" bc unless you are trying to save the environment, you are not saving $$$$ going with the diesel.

The price of the motor option and the maintenance will be a wash when compared to any gas engine of today. (I have driven a 3/4 ton diesel for over 25 years, so I am not bashing them.)

Unless you are a hot shot, farm, construction, OTR, or have money the close to $9000 premium for the diesel on a 3/4 ton can buy a lot of fuel, add on DEF, and the eventual cleaning or replacement of the DPF and it gets even worse. The govt f'd up the advantages of having a car/truck diesel around 2005. They are now well on their way to f'ing up the advantages in farm/industrial equipment.
