Wade has done fine recruiting a pure PG, but I kind of agree with OP on depth.
Waters
Smart
Pinson
are your "true" PGs since Wade got here. Averaging 6, 4.2, and 4 assists per game, respectively.
Skylar & Gaines averaged 3.2 and 3.4 assists, respectively.
Idk what Gaines is.. call him a combo guard if you want.
Skylar was a combo guard. Cam Thomas was a pure SG. Miller is a SG.
Every year it seems like we only have one "true" PG who can provide a calm presence, facilitate the ball, run the offense, average more that 4 assist per game, and not turn the ball over constantly.
If he goes down, we don't have anyone behind with those identical skills.
The only year I can think of is 2018-19 when you have Javonte and Tremont on the same team.

Wade’s style of play lends itself to spacing and guards creating for themselves (ie not a lot of assists).People dont like it and call it streetball but whatever

In todays college basketball you aren't getting another true PG that can play to just sit on the bench and play some minutes here and there. Those guys are rare to begin with so the they gonna hit the portal and find a home relatively easy.

We havent had a "pure" or "True" Pg under Wade at all I'd suggest. A "True" or "pure" PG isnt going to be someone who basically leads the team in points or shots. Waters had high assists numbers but he led the team in shots and points too, which you wouldnt associate with a "pure/true" PG who looks to just help setup other guys basically. Waters was a combo guard, so is Smart, Pinson, Mays, Miller, etc...these are all ball handlers who can also score.
The whole concept of a "true/pure" PG is old and outdated. If all you can do is average 6-7-8 assists a game but provide little else, it's not very useful in today's game. It's just not where the game is any more.
The fact is Waters, Smart, Pinson, Miller, Mays, Allen (incoming) are all ball handlers who can score which are combo guards. Gaines is a "ball handler" but is very defensive minded and isn't someone you can trust with the ball for extended periods of time so I wouldnt call him a "PG" but he's definitely not a 2-guard by any shape of the imagination either not having a shot. He's basically a defensive/energy guard sub. Guys like Murray and Thomas were pure 2-guards. We dont really trust them bringing the ball down the court and setting up offense much, they are there to fire away from 3 and just be scorers.
The fact is basketball has become more and more position-less over the years and people need to stop trying to pigeonhole these old position concepts in today's game.
