Is Lex Friedman a fake intellectual?

For people that don’t know, he is a huge Joe Rogan supporter and has had guest like Elon Musk on his podcast. Yet he only worked at the University that his dad had long time been an employee of, and just listening to him speak to people like Dan Carlin, he seems completely out of his depth. Just as a note he said he favored and was optimistic in “charismatic leaders” leading the world to a more favorable position… something that is 100 percent not supported by history. To me he is a very average intelligence individual and not even close to being any type of genius in any way. If anything the pace and tone he speaks in are indicative of being a person of below average intelligence.

Lex sucks at speaking. I don't know how good he is in academia but his podcast is terrible because he sucks at conversation.

Lex is WILDLY intelligent AI researcher, focused on machine learning.
He is a bit awkward, socially. . .and tries to not be combative or offensive to his guests, to a flaw.

Do more in depth research into his academic credentials and his father’s association with the University. Then listen to him speak for five seconds. Also listen to his Dan Carlin podcast. So out of his depth and naive

I don't think Lex purports to be an intellectual of our time per se; he acts as more of an interface between contemporary intellectuals and the common folks like us. He has enough knowledge to ask the right questions, steer the conversations, and make his guests comfortable, while not speaking over the heads of the podcast listeners who want to learn. His humble style is probably very appealing especially to academics and other intellectual types who don't normally do interviews on camera but who would like to somehow digestibly get the information out to the general public.

Yeah, he’s definitely not as smart as you are IMO.

Yeah I've watched a good bit of his interviews and he's definitely not on the level I expected. He's not a dumbass like Rogan by any stretch but I figured he was on Sean Carroll's level or something like that and he's not close.

He and those around him absolutely do prop him up as such.

If you take 30 seconds to say something that could be said in 5 then you are not some genius. And what he says after being slow as shite is not insightful 99.9 percent of time

All are geniuses
I don't know if Lex is a genius, but he is super intelligent. He is socially awkward, which makes him a bad interviewer.

He is clearly autistic and I think that directly plays into his interview style. Dude is over positive about everything, but I think he tends to let his guests do much more of the talking. He doesn’t try to act like he knows the fields he isn’t specialized in.

Actually taking the time to mentally formulate a clear question instead of shooting hyperbole from the hip is something we should all strive to do.

To say Lex is not intelligent is itself not intelligent. I agree with your take. He has done some good podcasts & there’s no question he’s highly intelligent. However, he’s not a naturally gifted interviewer. He’s clunky & asks bad questions often. Listening to him really highlights how good Rogan is at making interesting conversation. I like Lex but I can’t listen to every podcast he puts out. For starters, some of his subject matter hurts my brain
