Setting a goal weight and a target date is highly successful in helping people lose weight. Counting cals is the best way to ensure you are on track. With the apps available today it's easy to do.

I wouldn't go that far. If you cook a lot at home, it's very difficult to know the actual nutritional content of your meal. I find myself picking generic entries a lot, and you never really know which entry is correct. Maybe I eat 8 ounces of lasagna. Do I choose the generic lasagna that says 100 cals per ounce or do I pick the one that says 150 cals per ounce.

Anyway, rant off. Tracking still works pretty well, but there's some guessing that takes place.
