They are more important than ever. LSU will play 3 at a time, 60% of the time under the new DC

You may be right, but isn’t that more semantics? You’re including NBs, right? Which can be corners as much as safeties. And “safeties” are a lot of times tweeners like Jacoby Stevens who are really smaller LBs. Those 3 at a time may be “safeties,” but isn’t it just smaller LBers, bigger CBs, and typical safeties all vying for those 3 spots? I’m not saying Matthews isn’t the prototype and won’t be on the field at A&M for 90% of their plays, just that you can find those best 3 guys from other positions they were recruited as besides “safety?”

Jacoby is an LB. He would make for a very poor sec safety
