I mean, if they already had their guy and still interviewed him to fill their Rooney Rule requirements, knowing that he had no shot, then it sounds like he has a valid case.

No interest in hiring him at this point, though, because I don’t want any part of this shite show

That's the problem with the Rooney Rule. It forces teams to go through the motions or get fined

Doesn’t seem valid to me. You aren’t entitled to a job just because you interview for it. As far as interviewing to qualify for the Rooney Rule, that’s exactly why the rule is in place. As long as that ridiculous rule is in place, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

They had already interviewed their DC before they interviewed Flores and before they hired Daboll, he wasn't a Rooney Rule interview.

Based on what? The Rooney Rule was intended to give these guys a chance to interview...get known in these hiring circles even if it's for another job down the road..

There's no Rooney rule law. And, there is nothing sinister about a team finding the guy they want before they finish hiring.

Does he, though? It happens all of the time in real life and with nothing to do with affirmative action type requirements like the Rooney Rule. When a position comes open for anything, it's common for employers to have an idea of who they want and they interview folks as a formality knowing that they are giving the job to the person they were targeting to begin with, which is why the Rooney Rule is a joke. Proving that he was interviewed to satisfy the Rooney Rule requirement is one thing (nobody doubts that this happens), but proving that he wasn't hired because of race is quite another. In fact, I've seen more cases lately where the better qualified candidate was NOT hired because they were white and therefore not "diverse" enough. That said, prior to this mess, I would think that Flores has built a stronger resume than Daboll.

Now, the interesting part of this is the case against Miami and his firing. I do believe that his firing is suspect; he was a good coach there. If he has proof that the owner asked him to tank for a higher draft pick, tampered with another team by recruiting their QB and other things and fired him for not going along with it, he should have a very strong case. That still isn't racism, but it could certainly be considered wrongful termination. It sucks that he expanded it to include all of this other shite, it takes away from his case against the Dolphins, makes him look like a malcontent and pretty much makes him unhirable for other teams.

If anything, I hope this kills the Rooney Rule once and for all. But you cannot stop an owner or GM from hiring who he or she wants to hire.
