Do you know how deep your well goes and how many feet of water are on top of your wellhead? If the well isnt deep enough you’ll occasionally have a sulfur smell to your water. There is another tank in addition to your softener that can help bleed off that sulfur. I forget the name of the tank but it has an aeration effect where it sprays water into the tank and mixes water with air. I wouldn’t do it until you determine if you have this but just a heads up it’s not anything harmful. It just smells like rotten eggs.

I’ll second the comment about buying an all in one unit from Home Depot. Had one at my previous house and once one part goes out, you can’t replace the individual parts. The entire unit has to be replaced.
