they don't work against this strain- what more evidence do you need when even the drug companies are making that point???
It may be that SOME of the neutralizing monoclonal antibody products (Regeneron and the other product from Lilly) are not very effective against the Omicron variant. OTOH, the GSK product (sotrovimab) IS thought to be effective against the Omicron variant. But there are a couple problems:
1. Readily available tests that tell the Dr. whether the patient has Omicron or some other variant are non existent. Therefore, it's possible a patient might have a non-Omicron variant yet not receive effective MAB treatment because the government has stopped their distribution.
2. While ssotrovimab is effective against Omicron, it's avaialbility is much less than Regeneron which had the lions' share of the MAB market.
3. The 2 oral anti Covid drugs that were approved one month ago have VERY limited availability. I've talked to a couple of local pharmacists and they have no idea when they'll be able to get them, if ever. I was told that as w/ MAB's, the government has bought all supplies of these oral agents and is in charge of distribution.
4. The public is being told that Regeneron and the Lilly MAB are not effective against Omicron, yet that info has yet to be shared preventing individuals from analyzing it themselves. That's also how the CDC handled the info for the covid vaccine booster. The CDC director recommended the booster (although her panel did not) and they never released the actual information. In addition, the studies suggesting Regeneron and the Lilly MAB are not effective against Omicron are laboratory (think of "petri dish" ) studies only. No actual patients were involved. Surely there've been Omicron infected patients tested w/ Regeneron and Lilly MAB by now.

The same drug companies that have the pills coming out...right about now...for $500-750 a course.
Those drug companies?
