Do they have to build a high in the sky bridge over the Calcasieu? I've been over that I10 bridge a bunch and have never seen an ocean going ship on the north side.

Not sure. Maybe there was something upstream from the bridge that used to see particularly tall vessels?

I think Lake Charles will eventually need a crossing around Moss Lake too.

It was built in 1952. There may have been plans to keep the channel at depth and navigable early on. But it was never used. I grew up around there and I just never saw ships up there. I have three memories etched in my mind about that bridge. My mom and dad used to tell me there were crossed guns on the rails. I didn't notice those for ten years. My mom also drove an old Chevrolet with a clutch I believe. She alway yanked my chain by telling me she hoped we would not just roll backwards down the bridge in a traffic jam. We didn't. Finally I had a job that required that I drive a medium sized truck with a standard over that bridge often. It wasn't a problem. But there were traffic halts at times and I really got good at keeping that truck moving in the right direction with clutch management. No drifting backwards. I don't think I could do it now.

Agreed. Build it now rather than later. A bridge down there would still need to be high enough to accommodate the ocean-going vessels that use the ship channel.
