Not really. Cornwallis didn’t command him to massacre the innocents and that entire brigade would have faced a firing squad when Cornwallis found out.

Five people died in the Boston Massacre and we know how that ended. Do you think we would have forgotten a British brigade lighting 100 people on fire inside a church? One historian has said if the British did do that, it probably would have been enough to keep us entirely out of WWI. We’d be calling Brits “church burners” to this day.

It was based on an actual historical crime, but it was done by SS officers in France. I don’t blame the Brits for being pissed for their portrayal in that movie.

in all seriousness now..Ihonestly think it or similar probably happened at some point during that conflict. Before the railroad, most people never went 50 miles from where they were born. If no settlements or towns surrounded a small place..really no one would know and its all lost in history now. I wonder how many times Indians were blamed for Middle of nowhere robberies and murders..If we would have had newspaper, photography and radio capability of the 1930s, who knows what crimes would have been covered/uncovered.
