Forced heirship only applies if there is a valid will. Otherwise the decent would have died intestate and kids each get an even portion.

This isn’t accurate. Now, I very seriously doubt she can show documentation of mental incapacity such that she would qualify, but forced heirship laws in Louisiana supersede any will of the deceased.
