Last time was 1990 regular season. Miami (89 champ) played Notre Dame (88 champ).
Edited to add: It also happened the year before when Miami (87 champ) played Notre Dame (88 champ).

Damn, it has happened quite a bit, I thought that it was pretty rare. It is going to be a sweet game though...first time in 18 years.

I would say that the fact that it hasn't happened in 20 years is pretty rare.

I've posted this before, so sorry to those who have seen it.
This year marks the first time in the history of college football that a game will be played in which 2 different coaches are coaching against each other and both won a national championship with the same team, playing the game at the stadium of the national championship team. And it will happen twice this year.

No, I meant national championship. Saban coming back to BR, with both him and Miles winning a national championship at LSU. And Spurrier going to Gainesville with both him and Meyer winning a national championship at Florida.

I understand your point there. But The thread is about TEAMS that have won the last two titles!!! The reason your theroy works is cause of the fact that coaches move SO much more than they did in the past!!! Coaches used to stay with teams for 10-20 years.

Oh I understood what the thread was about. And I'm sorry that my post hijacked the thread, I just thought it was somewhat relevant because it found something very rare, similar to the intent of the thread. I mean think about it, it's never happened before, and it's happening TWICE in the same year.
Edit: and I am talking about teams. LSU and Florida. As well as their respective coaches. We're talking 4 national championships between the 2 schools, with 4 different coaches, competing on the same field against each other.
