Any war before the advent of "modern medicine".
Battlefield treatment and removal of the wounded (ambulances) had greatly improved by the time WWI started.
Visit the Civil War Medical Museum in Frederick, MD. The medical treatment was absolutely barbaric. In many cases men had arms and legs amputated without anesthesia.
