NIL will take that "don't be mean/talk shite/boo" our players argument away. They're not kids & some make a lot of $$.

NIL is still only an effect for the elite players. Y’all do realize the portal is the way it is mostly because there is a one free transfer rule and these fringe players are wanting to play so they are moving around, right?

How are you justifying "elite" when they haven't played a down of CFB?

I hear what you are saying, but this doesn't apply Dwight. He was going to be our #1 CB with his experience giving him the bump above all others on the roster.

NIL doesn't have to be for elite players. I still think it's best use is in retention for all and depth players (if used "nefariously").

The rest of what you said, I agree with. The volume in the portal is first and foremost a result of the immediate eligibility and seeking playing time, not the NIL. The extra 7 this year (coupled with that immediate eligibility) put it on turbo.

McGlothern is outside all this. Chalk it up to the umbrella term "immaturity". Not wanting to do the little things (like be on time for meetings) and then the all too common of pushing back when such things are imposed. It was fine in the previous regime with little to no consequence (there was some- he lost playing time/reps). But the new regime is get on board, or get off style imposition of the rules.

This is where the portal cuts both ways. Maybe CBK softens that a little because he needs players like Dwight in a normal year. But just like the players, the coaches are looking around at over 1200 players in the portal, immediate eligibility, and an extra 7 spots and are thinking to themselves "you know what, at least right now you aren't that hard to replace".

The portal giveth, and the portal also taketh. Players need to realize they don't have ALL the leverage this year if you are not elite. Dwight will be fine, he might be just under elite but someone will definitely want him. But there are many others who aren't as skilled who will get waved bye bye to as the position coach chuckles to himself "there's 2 better ones in the portal today".
