There's no time honored standard, but for me it depends on the circumstances. For example, if it's a brand new model from a well respected manufacturer, I'm going to wait at lest 6 mos before I think about buying it. Even then, that depends on how it's going. For example, if it's been 6 mos and reports on the 'net are favorable, I'd consider buying the gun. OTOH, if it's been 6 mos and reports on the internet indicate there are still problems I'm putting my consideration of the gun on hold for at least 6 more mos. If it's a new model from a manufacturer w/ a spotty record, I'll probably start w/ a 12 mos wait and adjust accordingly.
