I’d like to know the reasoning behind it. Only a moron would use a .22 pistol as a primary weapon to take deer.

The law doesn’t distinguish between a .22 pistol, rifle, or anything else. The intent is to not have people shoot deer with anything after dark and then claim they were just recovering.

If you had to put money on it, you think a deer has never been spotlighted with a .22 pistol?

While I’m certain it has happened, unlike the government, I believe 99.5% of hunters are ethical and would use a .22 to do the right thing.

But there’s no opportunity for government to make money or an example of someone in that case.
