Anyone predicting the number of scholarship players we will have when fall camp opens?

Starting with Texas Bowl 39 plus 13 signed in 2022 class plus say 7 portal players signed plus ? that were not in Texas Bowl 39 that return (KB and others) - I have no idea and that is why I ask.

Assuming Baskerville, Brennan, Boutte, York, and the couple DL all come back, plus the 13 signed, I’m guessing 4 to 6 more incoming freshman for Feb signing period and hopefully at least 15 total transfers, we would be sitting at 78+ scholarship players, which is more than enough to field a competitive reloading roster.

It is going to be tight next year. The new S&C coach is going to earn his money by getting the players in good condition. Injuries are key next year more than any other year. If Miles is the Miles we know and OL upgrades from this past year I am not going worry about talent on offense. CB is my biggest concern as all Tiger Fans can see.

We should get to 65 scholarship players, but a majority are going to be 1st-2nd yr players.

If we get to 70 or 75, that will be a masterful job by the staff. You have to imagine a few more guys will depart. O absolutely decimated this roster. 2023 will give us a normal roster again.

Do you take a player that’s in the portal that may not quite match up to talent levels of the past or do you hold the scholarship vacant?

I think the portal may offer many diamonds in the rough, but if we don’t get our wish list, I could see picking up 5 or so players strictly for depth purposes, why leave the position vacant? So likely upper 70’s

Starting with Texas Bowl 39

We had more than 39, Hanagriff said it was closer to 60. the 39 for the bowl doesn’t count injured players like Boutte or Brennan. It doesn’t include Nuss and any other redshirts, it doesn’t include a guy like Emery that was academically ineligible

We can have 81 with the self imposed limits, between the guys we sign in Feb and transfers I would guess we’ll be somewhere around 75

I think the self-imposed 81 limit period is now over (back up to 85).

It was 8 over next 2 years when they announced in 2020, should be 81 2022 back to 85 in 23

It also included players that have no more eligibility or may go pro

And how many of those were there? On his podcast Thursday Hanagriff said he counted around 60, which he said does include some guys that would probably be gone. We are not down to 39 just because that’s all that were available to play in the bowl
