it feels like every other conversation this time of year(trade season) involves magical thinking trade ideas.
As much as I would love CJ, and to a slightly lesser degree Fox, I dont think there is much we can do to make it happen unless we really overpay.
For one of those guys, I think they would almost turn anything down unless it had Herb or Hart in addition to the bench guys and multiple picks. Maybe not quite as much for Fox, because his value has to be down some from last year.
Im a fan of being a buyer, but I dont think you give the farm away to get a fringe all star just to make a push for the 10th seed.

I think some of you are forgetting that many people on the national level, not just hopeful Pels fans, viewed CJ as a negative asset this offseason because of his contract. He has had his worst season in quite a while, has had quite a few injuries and is still out with some lung issue. So I think some of you are over valuing CJ.
Also, Dame is currently hurt too and they may have to shut him down for a while to let him heal his nagging abdomen injury. Considering their current record, a while might be the rest of the season while they tank.
So if the season is viewed as lost that changes Portland's perspective a little. I do agree that they are more likely to do nothing than sell low, but a package built around Sexton for McCollum seems like a decent value right now.

Im strictly speaking on what the Pels have to offer. I dont think there is much of a middle ground there. Either not enough, or too much. At least nothing i've seen presented seems reasonable. But it is pretty much impossible to know CJ's market value/asking price right now.

Its not that I think CJ is some hugely desired guy, but that Portland getting back a package of misfit parts/expirings isn't going to be a good sell for Lillard/Portland.
Sexton and Lillard would be an all time bad defensive backcourt if you pay to keep him and Hayes/Temple are basically filler non-needle movers and Rubio, also a FA, doesnt make a ton of sense to overpay.

Not really a fan of CJ on his current contract. Add in his lack of size and defensive liabilities I'd be against making a move for him

CJ would cost us Hart, and personally I'd rather have Hart over CJ.
If we could find a way to make it work just sending out Sato, Temple, Hayes, NAW, then I'd be all for it.

Same here, would that be enough salary though? and how many Picks would it cost?
Posted on 1/10/22 at 4:53 pm to Pelliveli
It's close, I think we would have to add a Didi or Naji to complete salary matching.
As for picks that would need to be involved, we're probably looking at 2-3 1sts

At this point they could be acquiring assets and trying to get off of CJ's contract. Possible they go for something like that.

How would yall feel about just using the TPE, Sato, Naw/Jax to acquire some salary and role players this season. and then moving them and Hart next offseason for a star?
It really depends on if you think Ben or Fox will be moved this year. and how many teams you think can beat your offer

This. In a vacuum, those players plus a pick would be fine for CJ. The problem is CJ is more valuable to Portland than he is to any other team for reasons both on and off the court.

This is something else I've been looking at, mainly towards Detroit and Orlando and hopefully Portland if they decide to blow it up. Take on some salary for next season, and make us deeper this season in the process.
Portland: Naji, Future lottery protected 1st (2025+)
Orlando: Sato and 2nds
Detroit: Didi and 2nds
Pels: Nance Jr, Terrance Ross, Cory Joseph
Portland gets their pick back they traded for Nance and gets out of the tax.
Orlando creates salary room for next season, and gets a couple picks.
Detroit gets a young wing they can try to groom, and create more minutes for Killian and Cade to handle the ball more.

I would definitely agree with something like this
