The first question is really is this only a snapper rod or will you target things like grouper and AJ's and small tuna?

Because I find that most people WAY over tackle for just snapper. A 10-15 size reel is more than adequate for most snapper.

Personally Id get two combos first and go from there. Get a lighter combo and a heavier combo. Something like a 10-15 size reel and a 25-30 size reel for AJ's, grouper, and small tuna. I'd go with something like an Avet MX for smaller and Avet JX for bigger.

ETA; I meant to say, the thing about snapper is that they are usually higher in the water column and rarely will "wreck" you. So a smaller reel with less drag works great and is a lot easier to manage and more fun IMO.

These bottom reels are all absurd with line capacity these days. Most reels with 25+ lbs of drag have a 400+ yard capacity of line, you are fishing in 200 ft of water or whatever most of the time. Its unnecessary to have 2000 ft of line on a reel.
