I think he is hiring people who he trusts and knows what it took to get ULL where it is at now. They are trying to change the culture there and if many have been working together they know exactly the plan and their role. No reason to go get a bunch of SEC retreads or whoever “just because”.

Interesting perspective. Yet there are some criticizing Kelly bc he’s also looking at people he has worked with before.

If LSU had hired Napier and proceeded to just bring his ULL staff, I wonder how those folks would feel about that.

Seems like all are not held to the same standard on this board

I understand that mentality. It it is indeed very common.

But it has failed more than it succeeded when there's too many "my guys". SEC is brutal. Any weaknesses will be exploited... repeatedly. Maybe not so much the position coaches, but for sure the coordinators you have to go find good solid guys. Now if you've moved around the P5, fine.

But when you are "leveling up" it can be a disaster. And has been more times than not.

The great coaches surround themselves with other great coaches AND do not tolerate fools who don't measure up... simultaneously. "My guys" is not that.

Maybe so but you can hire better coordinators than the guys you had at ULL

I assume you’re talking about at ULL and maybe you can explain to me how averaging 18,000 fans a game when not all that long ago they were averaging 30,000 a game is changing the culture?

They had 14,000 people at the Troy game. That’s for a team having maybe its best season ever. I have to think that somethings going on over there that’s causing the fans to stay away from a pretty successful football team.
