The reason they weren't allowed to leave is because they don't want to be held liable for them. If they leave they are terminated on the spot. But I would have allowed them to clock out and leave the property and once that done then the facility will not be responsible for any death in any natural disaster.

Sometimes an employee doesn't have a choice but to stay because they don't have enough time to escape an impending tornado.

They’re providing for their safety. They’re not providing for their safety to the extent that you would like. I suspect they followed all the building codes and OSHA regs.
