Word was out that the AD wanted O removed as coach. He had to settle For his 5th choice. Thankfully we have more alignment now and the coach will be able to hire who he wants without all of the background noise re: stability.

Conflicting reports on this. O took complete credit for the defensive turnaround. So either he is lying and it still took Kiffin telling them our defense sucked and we could blitz, or O is telling the truth.
Y’all need to simply give him credit for not sucking and being better than Pelini, outside of that wish him well and send him packing.

do you think a head coach gets more involved or less involved in x and o in a bye week when he has more time? What about more involved or less involved before the biggest game of the year? It is rare for fans to get a glimpse of the dynamics that goes into a game plan and when we do it seems most of the fanbase ignored it.

I keep seeing this but where did the story that Lane called O come from? Where was that reported?

How much did he get paid last season?
Yea, dont feel bad for any coaches at a P5 school. They’re livlihoods do not hang in the balance they do not live paycheck to paycheck.

How do we even know it was his fifth choice? Might’ve been 25th, but the 5th to actually interview.
Seriously good for Jones for taking a shot to improve his standing, which I think he did, but he should have never gotten the job. Going into this year I knew either we were going to kill it, or O was fired.
Hired two brand new Coordinators to arguable Top 10 jobs for each in College. That was never going to work. Jones was better than Peetz, good for him.

Dude I have no idea or pretend to know what actually happened. Either option isn’t good for Jones though. His base defense sucked and I highly doubt O was preventing him from blitzing period. It took someone telling either O or Jones that they could actually blitz, for that to happen.
Credit for implementing the change, but way too late in the season to make me believe he is anything more than average to subpar

Defense didn’t change until Lane called Ed and told him they were too predictable.
The defense was terrible and predictable in 2020 as well...before Jones arrived at LSU. Coincidentally, it happened to be the first year Ed got to run is beloved 4-3 approach after Aranda left.
So what is more likely? The defense sucked in 2020 with one DC. Then sucked again in 2021 with a different DC, until Lane Kiffin told Ed his two different DC's were running same bad scheme? Or is it that Ed and his assinine approach NEVER worked until he got out of the way and let Jones run the defense the way HE wanted to run it?
Two different DCs...ONE common denominator. I guess unless you think Jones himself, after 8 weeks of average to bad performances, just said "Hey, maybe we should try something different than the 4-3 with no blitzes that never works"?
Posted on 12/7/21 at 3:04 pm to Alt26
I agree with you on O having a saying on the approach, every head coach has some say. What I am saying is thy even if a coach makes you run say a 4-3, you can do creative things within it to not be base.
We legit ran a predictable and base defense until week 8. I find it hard to believe O said to do that. Don’t forget, Bo blitzed a LOT, especially against State, even when it wasn’t working. Jones didn’t blitz until week 8…

really do hope he can either stay on as a safety coach
Since he didn't get the young safeties any pt this year even in blowouts. Yeah. Let him recruit more too, since he's not landed any.
But like OP steady improvement all year like when fricking Kentucky rammed it down our throats in like week 10

Don't know if I am right or not but I bet if you look at his coaching history he hasn't been in one place very long.
Edited: Other than Bowie St 2005 to 2009 and Hawaii for 2 years Miami Dolphins for 2 years & Bengals 2 years from 2001 to today has been mostly 1 year gigs.

Yes, because it would make complete sense for Ed to wait until AFTER he was fired to step in and fix an issue that, if fixed earlier, could have prevented his firing.
Aranda left and the defense went to complete shite. "Coincidentally" the 2020 defense, with much fanfare from the HC, also changed its approach/scheme from what they ran in 2019. Ed then fires his 2020 DC and hires a new guy. "Coincidentally" the new guy is running the same scheme/approach as the 2020 DC...with only marginal improvement. What is the common denominator there?
Then, suddenly, in the eighth game of the season, the defensive scheme/approach COMPLETELY changes from the one they had been running for two years...under two DIFFERENT DCs. So what is more likely? Ed had a moment of clarity he never had in the prior 17 games? Or, he got out of the way and let his DC fully dictate the scheme/approach?
I might be more inclined to believe Ed wasn't the problem if we had not already seen the results of his meddling before. In early 2017 he didn't like Canada's offensive scheme/approach. LSU then goes into the Troy game and the offense "suddenly" looks NOTHING like it did in the first 4 games. Now, do we think Canada all of a sudden decided to completely abandon his approach in hopes of putting up a whopping ZERO first half points vs. Troy? Or is it that his moron HC demanded he change the approach? I'm going to lean towards the former because the Canada style offense seemed to return the very next week vs. Florida (after the embarrassing loss to Troy), resulting in a win.
LSU was at their best when Ed had ZERO input on the actual gameplay approach. It was only when he decided to bless the team with his extraordinary x's and o's mind that LSU went from a perpetual 9-10 win (and national championship) team to a team forced to win their last game of the season in order to reach .500

There's more than one scenario. O was the idiot demanding 4 linemen and no blitzing, for sure. Daronte didn't make one fricking halftime adjustment all year, also true.
But the blitzes which is all this d lived off of the last 3 games were put in by Kevin Coyle. Daronte had zero involvement. He didn't magically competent once he was no handcuffed.

Before you feel bad for Jones, go watch the Kentucky game. That should help.
We had no idea they ran the ball well per Zero.

You rehashed your same points in a longer form. I really don’t care what happened or who did what to change the defense.
A change was made, great! I’ll bite and give Jones credit. Here are some more points why he still isn’t good.
He caught Bama off guard, but Arkansas and everyone else made adjustments and schemed for LITERALLY his only blitz of All out Blitz. He had no other blitz package, must be waiting for Kiffin to tell him another blitz to use, right?
I am trying to be nice, but he is subpar as a DC. I hope he has success on another team, but nothing he has shown proves he should be at LSU. He never should’ve gotten the job to beginning with!

I think Jones will & should stay.... I think O was tying his hands defensively
Posted on 12/7/21 at 4:58 pm to LSUlefty
No worries, he will land on his feet.
Posted on 12/7/21 at 4:59 pm to LSUBR
Absolutely not. We can and will do better.

IMO if anyone on the current staff was confirmed as staying it would have come out today. If for no other reasoning recruiting weekend coming up. They may clean house including Faulk and Raymond! May be flushing the toilet and doing a complete reset
