It's good for you that you've not personally suffered any supply problems, but it's not imaginary and does exit. Aside from problems obtaining medicines from retail pharmacies, hospital pharmacies experience supply issues as well. I have a friend who's a hospital pharmacist and he been telling me >5 years of intermittent availability of medicines, usually for many months. Some of the missing meds are simple, but important drugs (for example intravenous glucose and drugs used during a "code") while some are more out of the ordinary (for example, cancer treatment drugs). Just recently there were no supplies nationwide of a popular drug used in alcohol and drug detox for many months.
