Shutdown: Pay service members? No. Ukraine? Of Course.

This assclown representing Brandon just said on the news how the shutdown would stop paying almost 2 million service people and hundreds of thousands of other government folks. Ukraine keeps getting funded though. This country is so fricked.

Just one reason to shut it down and let it all burn.

The Ukraine can piss off… those supporting more money to them will be removed soon enough

My daughter at the USNA told me not to buy plane tickets home for Thanksgiving. They are being warned the shutdown will delay exams. Total BS.

Pretty sure the military is considered essential. I remember they said service members wouldn't be paid during a shutdown in the Clinton years - chain of command told troops they had to keep working even if they didn't get paid.

My son (active duty Spec ops soldier) and I were talking about this last night.
Low ranking enlisted guys in the regular army are about to be fricked in a bad way. Every entity set-up to help enlisted soldiers with sudden financial problems is going to be shut-down. These guys (say from the E-4 mafia down) aren't always the best decision makers when it comes to finances. The smallest hiccup can derail them.
One shining bright spot is IF they are members of the Navy Federal Credit Union. My son told me NFCU will continue to deposit the soldiers' "pay" as normal and then when the back pay checks hit they will claw back the "loan". Good on them.
There is a commander of a unit (non Spec Ops) who had a little budget left over here at the end of the fiscal and wanted to set it aside for his soldiers in case they needed emergency funds during the shut-down. He's been relieved for even discussing such a thing. Technically I get that it is a "misappropriation" but he was simply trying to take care of his soldiers. Something the Army always preaches.

was just telling someone yesterday that my first duty station in 1994 was okinawa and my senior staff nco called us in and said be prepared to work, and be prepared to not get paid. a few marines mumbled "frick that shite"....to which he said you will be immediately charged if you're not here.
