Might’ve missed a thread already posted on this, but saw Shea dropped an RPM with 80% confidence today.

Hope he can play, injury proned, wasn’t very good this year. But, but, but he’s from Louisiana.

You Burns position coach? I actually thinks Burns did well having to work with and cover for a secondary full of injuries and young inexperienced DB's. If a secondary is weak at the corner that tends to make the whole secondary look bad.

You thought wrong. He was out of place constantly and couldn’t tackle. The freshman played better than he did this year

You're not wrong at all, and this is a completely unbiased opinion but here's the grades on Gilbert vs. Major Burns:

2021 - 65.4 (played 123 snaps over 6 games)
2022 - 64.4 (started all season)
2023 - 65.8 (played 1.5 games before getting hurt)

Burns had a 60.6 grade this season and 64.0 grade last season. 58.2 grad in 2021 when he also played a bit.

The difference isnt much.

Matthews was better than Gilbert and basically took over his spot once Gilbert got hurt. Gilbert missed A LOT of tackles at A&M which hurt his grade quite a bit. He also got dinged hard on run defense. He's gotten good grades in coverage itself though (low 70s).

No you just proved my point. He was out of place because he had to cover space not covered by a weak or inexperienced corner or safety. The freshman who you claim played better were at corner not safety.

BUrns plays fine... and has speed, my only problem with him is his avoidance of contact and resultant poor tackling. Was he feeling pressure to stay healthy because everyone else was hurt/MIA??

Burns definitely has his faults, and he does miss tackles, but the numbers also support Gilbert misses A LOT more.

Burns missed tackles to tackles:
25 missed on 145 tackles - 14.7% missed tackle rate

Gilbert missed tackles to tackles:
24 missed on 79 tackles - 23.3% missed tackle rate

So Gilbert is a lot more guilty there over Burns. The difference between the 2 looking at PFF grades, Burns is much worse in coverage than Gilbert but is much better in run defense. So if you're going to play the 2 side by side, better to have Gilbert being the guy to drop back more in coverage and have Burns play closer to LOS and more run support.

Burns has no clue how to play his responsibility in coverage. Also terrible with reads. Low IQ player.
