Disclaimer : this info is second hand. I assume that this info is correct, but don't have 100% verification.
I was told that Cypress Lakes GC was sold and the land will be used for houses.
Also told today that CBIGG Group that owns Sweetwater CC, Willow Fork, Pecan Grove and 10 other courses has put the entire lot up for sale and they want to sell it as a group and not individually.
Not sure how many Golf Companies are willing to buy such a big block of courses.
Again , I was just told this today. Could be speculation or could be 100% true.
If true, it could really change the golf landscape in the Houston area.

Hate that Cypress Lakes was a decent track and greens. Always liked played there and going to Floyd's afterwards for beers and food.
Going to have to have some deep pockets to buy all of CBIGG Courses.

Cypress Lakes was trash for what they charged last time I played it. That was March 2022. Layout was fine, but they overcharged for the conditions.
Actually it may have been Summer of 2022 now that I think about it. Regardless it was way overpriced.

Cypress lakes gets way too much play and they've let everything go. I was a member there 10 years ago, last week went to hit balls and the bathrooms were still messed up. Place should be minting money like Blackhorse and Sterling.

Fees at blackhorse are about to go up even more.

Ya, Blackhorse can charge whatever they want and people will pay it.

Nope, not me. The cost of golf has gotten ridiculous. I grew up playing in N Louisiana, Monroe/ West Monroe area, and more or less played for free from 7th grade thru college. Live in Cypress now and have two boys (8 and 11), and golf is too damn expensive to get them out often.

You can get a card at Longwood for $20 a year and play for <$60 on a weekend and <$50 on a weekday. It's the best value in Cypress. I'd play Longwood everyday for $60 long before I'd pay $150 to play either Black Horse.

Here's what CBIGG sent to everyone:

CBIGG apparently has two potential buyers.
CBIGG seems to be confident that the deal will be completed by September. As a member hopefully it happens soon and they GTFO.

Rummy, I hope that is true for you in what they are saying.
Years ago Sweetwater CC here in Sugarland was a real gem. While it remains in decent shape, it's just not the same. Been sold too many times and the membership really changed.
I belonged there 3 years ago and after 2 years I couldn't wait to leave it.
I know Pecan Grove CC is not the same either.

Pecan Grove is a shithole course. The only thing that they have is a nice clubhouse.
Willowfork course is in pretty good shape but the clubhouse needs a lot of help. If WF loses the course superintendent they’ll lose a large portion of their golf members.

Yeah, we'll see. I don't hold much hope in it being a "good" thing long term.
That said, we're already looking at leaving the Austin area and heading a little more East in Texas and getting more acreage and horses. I'll trade golf expenses for horses.

CBIGG bought high and now is selling on the downside ..Country clubs are a dying business in today's economic climate. Half of those clubs will be gone in 3 yrs...replaced by houses and commercial real estate!

Same, only different.

And that is what makes me nervous about staying.
There were already some rumors about putting houses on the course months ago, so now I wonder how there might be to those.

I might have to go against my earlier self. There was a time 2 years or so ago when Longwood was in such bad shape, that I stayed away for quite a bit until I heard it got better. Once it did get better, I felt that the value was there to play it more often than the other Cypress courses. It may be time to ditch it for a while again. I'm sure most courses are in rough shape with the crazy amount of rain we got recently, but it was awful yesterday. The greens were as bad as I have seen them. The fairways and tee boxes weren't much better. To top it all off, we quit after 3.5 hours when we had only made it through 12 holes.
I'm worried that the government buying a 1/3 of the property and the club turning it into an 18 hole club instead of 27 has made them lazy. I'm guessing they don't see the point in upkeep when there will be a renovation of sorts soon.
