Crawfishing as a little kid

Like most of you I'm sure. The neighbor hood kids 6-8 years old would get together with some bacon or type of meat tied to a string and hit the ditch or a creek.
We did some catching for a bunch of youngsters. However we never did catch enough for anything more than bait.
Anyway I haven't spoken to anyone that would use a flashlight to catch them but my friend & I came up with this method. Probably because we weren't very good at it or smart....ok weren't very good at it
We grew up in West Central Louisiana and we had crawfish living in our yard everyone did.
Those of you not in the know, Crawfish in your yard, build mounds.
We tried fishing them without much success. Being the young fishermen we were we had some meltdowns and kicked their mounds over & bam next morning new mound.
We put 2 + 2 together & we commandeered a box of plastic forks. Then went through the neighborhood knocking down these mounds and marking the location with a plastic fork.
Then we would come back after dark with our flashlight and a shovel.
One of us would shine the light on the crawfish at the top of the hole and the other on the opposite side of the hole would take the shovel stomp it in the ground and cut off his escape route. "Butter"
It literally only took a few seconds to throw one in the bucket with our new method. lol
We still never caught enough for a boil but we spent a many a night "spotlighting crawfish" A couple kids running amuck in the neighborhood shinning a flashlight in whatever front yard had a mound. lol Times were certainly different. I'm guessing if my Atari 2600 had better graphics I would have been playing video games.
to see a crawfish mound see this link LINK but don't fish them like this it's the hard way. lol
I figured I would share this it may be a nice way to pass a good time with the kids or grandkids & get some excellent bait at the same time.
