NYC man wanted for 'hate crime' of defecating on Pride flag
quote:
On Monday, the New York Police Department posted on Twitter that they are looking for a man who defecated on a pride flag and he is wanted for committing a hate crime because of the incident.
The New York Post reports that the incident happened at a tapas bar on the city's Upper West Side on April 15 and that video show's the man grabbing one of the restaurant's two pride flags, placing it on a chair, discharging his feces and then drawing a smiley face in the pile. He then reportedly grabbed the restaurant's second flag and wiped himself.
According to the official New York state website a hate crime is committed if a victim has been targeted "because of a perception or belief about their race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, religion, religious practice, age, disability or sexual orientation, or when such an act is committed as a result of that type of perception or belief. These crimes can target an individual, a group of individuals or public or private property."
Concerning private property crimes, "hanging a noose or painting a swastika could be deemed hate crimes," according to the website.
The official website for the city of New York clarifies that "sexual orientation" includes "gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender."
The 34-year-old general manager of Buceo 95's, where the incident took place, Nathan Nolen Edwards, said that he was a homosexual and that the establishment had a "very inclusive, largely LGBTQ+-identifying staff," including professional drag queens.
Edwards said, "It's definitely a punch to the gut. We certainly haven’t experienced anything to this degree. A defecation on a pride flag is not the norm here."

Why do I feel like this is EXTREMELY selectively enforced?

Shitting on a pride flag is a hate crime, but burning the American flag is free speech.
Clown. World.
Clown. World.

I don’t think defecating on any flag should be a hate crime.
That being said, this dude is stupid and trash. Not my hero.

This guy really was on another level. Making the smiley face was a nice touch.

We're more of a defecation on the dick kind of establishment

I mean, is this not common sense?
I imagine we would approach 100% affirmative responses if you asked the board if it's trashy to shite on a chair outside of a restaurant. Adding a flag to the equation doesn't make it any less trashy

my point was i feel the same way about him, as a poster. sorry for confusion.

It's trashy and stupid but a hate crime seems to be a massive stretch. Vandalism, destruction of property I could understand

I don't think hate crimes should exist, so I have no issue with that. I was commenting purely on the "stupid and trashy" angle

I agree. I don't really care why you did it

To most of the board, they would need to know if the shitter was a Republican or democrat before determining if it’s trashy or not.

So sounds like it would have been a hate crime even if he did this to a Texas A&M flag

It’s incredibly weird and messed up how sexual stuff is celebrated the way it is.

Soo, you can burn the American flag and piss on it but you can't shite on a Pride flag?
