Baton Rouge is a relatively cheap place to live, but it's expensive if you're trying to survive.

The big problem with Baton Rouge is while a lot of costs are relatively low, so are wages for most folks. So, while you can find cheap places to live that will be murder and flood prone, it is difficult to live a life of any relative safety on Baton Rouge wages. This gets even more exacerbated when you start throwing schools into the equation.

I'll take a guess and say anywhere in between middle and low.

Depends on how you quantify the associated risks of living here

When you throw education (for kids) in the mix, it bumps it up significantly.

We just brought on a new hire from TX. Looked at the Cost of Living indexes from where he was coming from. Had to provide a significant salary bump due to the fact he has school age kids and public schools are not an option.

Low medium/medium on real estate alone. BR is way too expensive for a Louisiana city not in the 504 shite hole.

Low cost within the city limits.
If you have kids, that cost of living rises quickly once you start paying for private schools.

The Standard, when it opened was $4k a month ($1k x 4) I thought that was kinda high being that 1 street over was dangerous. I dont know what its is now (ION) ? thats some NYC prices.
