How much of Pride nostalgia is remembering the highlight fights and how much did it actially produce good cards consistently?

I'm genuinely asking. I never caught Pride when it was an active promtion. Seems to me that their HW division was by far the best ever, but I know they had all kinds of gimmick fights and staged pro wrestling type of outcomes as well.
