I'm honestly more excited for the introduction of Mike VII than I am for football season. I was an undergraduate during the last years of Mike V, and I was always ashamed of that pitiful concrete hovel where we kept him. I was genuinely proud of the student body and the student government for the role they played in funding the new enclosure.

I remember when Mike VI arrived as a cub. He was so much more active and playful than Mike V. It was just really fun watching him grow up in those awesome digs.

Hopefully Mike VII will enjoy coming out for football games, but I won't be offended if he'd rather chill under his shade tree.

They've already announced they won't even be trying to get him into his trailer any more

I'm actually against him coming out at all at this point. There was a reason why Mike VI stopped going to games.. It's because every time he did, 100,000+ people would be yelling at him in a cramped cage.

Besides all you see from the stands is the rolling cage itself. You could put a stuffed Tiger you won from a carnival game and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if there weren't any close up video shots.

I see really no point in the tradition. I hope he stays in his digs like most of the students and some casual fans seem to do today.

Maybe you are too young to know, but Mike V had a great presence at games. He would roar into the microphone before almost every game and having a tiger parked next to where the visiting team enters tiger stadium is intimidating.

I get why they don't want a Tiger in the stadium in there any more but you are a tad short-sighted.

So I'll go ahead and set the O/U at 5 for how many more threads there will be asking when LSU will get Mike VII.

I was unaware. I'm fine with that, too. I'm just glad we can provide a nice home for a young tiger in need.

(Also, down-votes on my first comment? Seriously? I guess a general aversion to positivity is one of The Rant's charms, so no worries.)

He can stay home and be closed to his beer and bathroom like most "fans" do today.

No, it's not. They all know about Mike at this point, and it's not as if they let him out of his cage to wander around the visitors sideline.

Step 1. Get the damn tiger.
Step 2. Demand stadium visits. Many Mikes loved the stadium atmosphere!

I would assume the down votes are for you saying that you are more excited about the new Mike than you are football season. Don't think anyone has a problem with the rest of your comments.

Old news. For those spun up over this, get over it.

Well, they used to put his cage behind their bench...

they put a live Tiger right behind our bench, everyone was scared to be near it, we all stood on the other side...they would prod it to make it roar....those cajuns down there are crazy

Former Alabama defensive end Marcell Dareus was terrified of it when he made the trip to Death Valley in 2010. “That thing, that thing scared the life out of me,” he said at the time.

Maybe not intimidating to everyone, but these are first hand accounts from visiting players.

I don't know that they ever tried with Mike VI. It was more like they'd open the trailer. If he went it, great. If not, oh well.

Ask that Auburn dude who got swiped at a few years back when he was taunting Mike V

I am friends with a former Fla. State QB who played in TS. He said that one of the most vivid memories he has was when he was near the cage when they brought out Mike and Mike did his roar. My friend said it was the closest time he ever had in actually peeing in his pants! It really rattle him for a bit. He said it was the most intimidating place he had ever played.
I vote for Mike coming to the field on the big games!

Same here...no wonder Mike had no problem getting into the trailer for home games. I don't recall one home game where Mike V didn't show up.

Where Mike V lived was paradise compared to the original Mike cage.....
