I’m not saying I’m happy about it but in response to all you people posting these repetitive “is he fired yet?” posts:

You’d better resign yourselves to the fact that Matt House isn’t going anywhere.

House was hired in December 2021 as DC. The transfer portal opens the day after the conference championship games.

So he has two different opportunities to get quality players from the portal. Once during the 2021-2022 opening which was 60 days and a second time in the 2022-2023 opening which was also a 60 day period. This year the portal is open for only 45 days.

So in reality he has had 2 opportunities to shore up his defense through the portal and failed both times. Whose fault is that? Mine?

Quite simply he’s ran a soft defense for two years. Nothing is simpler for an offense to get first downs than a defense that only puts 3-4 players within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. It’s absolutely no wonder that all of the SEC teams LSU faced scored as many points as they did each game.

On the other hand, look at the teams that played for their conference championships yesterday. Of the 4 games I watched, it seemed that with a rare exception here and there each of those defenses put at least 7 players within 6 yards of the line of scrimmage. As a result, many more teams punted and the scores were much lower.

Thankfully we had such an explosive offense. Otherwise we could have easily lost 5 or 6 or more games this year.

Basically our defense suffered this year for two reasons. One being a failure to get better talent from the portal the last two years. The other from running what amounted to a modified prevent defense.

Say all you want about taking 2-3 years to build a team by recruiting in the off season, getting them on campus, blah, blah , blah. The truth is the portal throws that wisdom out the window. Now it’s possible to pick up players in the winter who can make an immediate impact the fallowing fall. Does the name Joe Burrow ring a bell???

So please no more excuses. We as a fan base need to hold the coaching staff’s feet to the fire. Kelly isn’t being paid $10M a year to field a 3 loss team. He’s being paid the big bucks to field contender. Same for House. He’s paid what $2M a year? He’s one of the highest paid DC’s isn’t he? If House can’t do it he needs to go. Same for Kelly. He needs to light a fire under his arse and begin producing or he needs to be shown the door as well.
