Lance Heard Should Play RG Until Mizzou Game

Here is my opinion.
Run Blocking
The young man is strong! When Lance Heard went into the game in the 2nd Quarter versus Grambling, the right side of the O-line immediately became the strong side of the run game. It was impressive. Heard needs to be on the field.
Pass Blocking
But his pass blocking skills need a few weeks to develop into starting caliber. His head was extended beyond his knees, making him off balance. This could be because he isn't familiar with how much force will be required to take on a bull rush at the college level, or it could be because his footwork has him too far away from the defender. Either way--as of today--Emery Jones is the better pass blocker, and I think he needs to remain at Right Tackle.
Long Term Plans
Obviously, the long term plan is that Emery Jones will slide in to the RG spot, and Lance Heard will man the RT spot. But sometimes long term plans are at odds with a "win now" approach (see Harold Perkins). It would be great if the long term plan could be implemented against Mizzou a week before the Auburn game, but nobody knows how long an individual's growth will take. Get that run game going presently, and buy some time for the big guy to hone his pass blocking skills on the outside.

He only played tackle against Grambling

I think the OP is suggesting he will be exposed at tackle (especially on passing downs) against decent competition.

I know it was grambling
but the whole right side of the offensive line was pancaking them dudes every other snap.
The freshman tightend looked good in run blocking #84 Mac Markway along with the transfer #89 Connor Gilbreath
We started running a heavy offset package where both TE's lined up on the same side and they could not stop us physically.

Throw him out there against St. at RT and slide Jones into RG. He is the future. Time to run with it.

Our running game is much much better with Heard at RT. Let him take some lumps and learn, Jones is much better as a guard and Heard is a true tackle

So cool and edgy

I agree he needs to play to get experienceand get ready, but IMO, he's not ready to start.
If you get him a decent amount of play time he might be ready to start later this season. He's got a lot to work on.

No point of putting him at guard now and still having to go through the growing pains later. Rip the bandaid off now. Let him get film and coached on it.

Jones is better at guard, Heard is a natural tackle. They need to make this move for MS ST

Nothing anybody suggests on this board will happen. You are not on the staff. So what.
