Who knows? But IMO going for two in BOTH situations is the right call 99% of the time.

In both instances there was no time on clock. If you convert, you win without your opponent ever getting the chance to touch the ball again. And rather than starting your drive from the 25 yard line, like you would in OT, you "start" from the 2 yard line.

If LSU would have gotten the XP in both situations the opponent was still going to get another shot with the ball to ultimately win. But if I'm a coach and you tell me before the game I'm going to get the ball at the 2 yard line with a opportunity to score a walk-off "TD" I'm taking it virtually every single time!

This doesn't make absolute sense. If you take it from the 25 and miss you don't automatically lose as you would by taking it from the 2 and missing.
