re: WVU and Louisville headed to the big XII?

I never understood the thinking that schools had to have level academic standards as others in the conference. Conferences are formed for athletic competition. If that is equal , it's all that should matter. They are all freaking college universities for God's sake. I think some just use that argument when they need an excuse to not accept a school that they do not want.

Stinks the sec should have accepted wvu with open arms. I hate 13 teams. We need a solid 14th. Wvu is it at least from one tiger fan's opinion

No. I want both of you (WVU and Louisville) in the East. IF Mizzou actually gets in the SEC.

Missouri would probably be the perfect addition in the eyes of the university presidents, but I bet they'll hang in the B12 and see if they can eventually get into the B1G, where they want to be. I think they are looking at the SEC only because there was going to be no b12. Just my opinion

Amazingly silly reason to omit a team from the SEC. If we were talking about the U. of Phoenix I could understand. It's the SEC, not the Ivy League.
SEC is already viewed as a conglomeration of mediocre academic institutions with a few exceptions. This may not mean much to most sports fans but it does mean quite a bit to university presidents that get to vote on who is allowed to join the conference. The negatives of accepting WVU into the SEC outweigh the positives to the decision-makers. Big 12 is backed into a corner and if they are reaching out to WVU, it's out of desperation. Accepting a school such as WVU can legitimize Big 12's automatic BCS bid while accepting a school such as University of Houston does not.

Plus a lot easier football schedule in both. I'd like Tx and OK to go to the PAC-12. We'd likely never hear much about UCS football again, IMHO.

OU and UT want to be in a conference with Schools that they feel are up to their academic standards. That's why OU and UT were interested in the PACxx and the ACC. Solid academics in these conferences, ESP the PAC
Then why are they in the current Big 12 ? The avg. US News and World Report ranking of colleges in the SEC is higher than it is the Big 12.
That argument is a chickenshit lie Texas uses cause it's scared of SEC competition

I beg the SEC to take us. I don't want to have to listen to any longhorns shite.

We need a 14th team.... 13 would be turrible.... So who will it be? I say grab WVU and be done with it...

Those aren't very good geographic fits for the Dwindling XII, unless they're going to grab one or two more teams east of the Mississippi.

From Aggy scout site:
Looks like WVU will take a SEC invite if one comes soon. If not it is Big 12 with Texas, Ou, Mizzou, okie state. shrug. A lot of travel but Luck cant take the risk of ending up in CUSA with Green Wave.
Hop wrote: As I said earlier, A&M/SEC is waiting to see what shakes out of the Big 12's quest for team #10. The big action behind the scenes is coming from our friends in Morgantown. It seems the Mountaineers are tired of being in-waiting and have decided to be a little more aggressive today.
From talking to several WVU sources and even a few new Mountaineer fans on our boards looking for realignment scoop, the SEC is where they want to be ultimately. When the SEC first had indirect communication with WVU admin several weeks ago, the Mountaineers responded very positively at a future invite. But the SEC also had an eye on Missouri and the KC/STL markets. Still, there was a wink-and-a-nod with WVU that there was significant mutual interest.
Of course, then the ACC started taking bites out of the Big East and naturally WVU got a little nervous and wanted to speed up the timeline. From my WVU sources, Oliver Luck has decided to get aggressive and has pitched the ACC and SEC again, and then jumped on a plane for Dallas to talk with the Big 12. Sources indicate that WVU now has a Big 12 offer.
But I get the sense that WVU would still like the SEC to swoop in at the last minute and extend an invitation, and that is still possible. The SEC is running out of options for a viable #14 and while they are willing to go into 2012 with 13 teams, they would prefer to make it #14 if the right team is available. FYI, I'm hearing that someone from TOS site is saying that WVU has burned its bridge with the SEC because they applied to the ACC. That is un-informed, which is par for the course over there. WVU would have been in the SEC in a heartbeat weeks ago with an invite from Slive and the members.
I do think if the SEC waits much longer that WVU will jump on the Big 12 offer, but I still get the sense that if the SEC still wants WVU, they would join. So, what will the SEC do? IF they pass on WVU, then where do they turn for a 14th team? At this point, I simply don't know. Some people are saying Louisville, but you have that market covered with Kentucky, and frankly Louisville has become a very mediocre football program, and the basketball isn't what it was 5 years ago.

I think the SEC has a lot better options than West Virginia. I wouldn't hold your breath on an invite, the ACC just rejected you.

I just don't see how Louisville & WVU OR BYU fit in Big 12!?
TX needs to just add TCU, Rice, and maybe LA Tech to get back to 12 and stay "regional".

ACC never rejected WVU because WVU did not apply. Though WVU would be rejected by the ACC for academic reasons. We have beaten Rutgers every year since like 1988, and Terps since 2003.
It is obviously not related to football. Or hoops. WVU was in the Final 4 and won the Big East 2 years ago in basketball. shrug.
You know I graduated from Tulane Law School. They make fun of LSU academics. It is what it is with academics. WVU is not Harvard. Bit it has a goods sports program.
ACC cant chant academics but WVU can stomp most of them in football. WVU starts a home n home with FSU next year.

Is the B12 still trying to act like they care about academics? I hope not because WVU and Louisville would probably rank last in the SEC.

hope not. schools do not bring anything other than more mouths to feed. Keep it at 9 and just play an extra OOC game.

Big 12 is meeting today to discuss changes to revenue sharing and possible expansion. I think if the Big 12 wants to be taken seeriously and become more stable. They need to keep Mizzou (which i think they will) and add 3 teams to make it a legitimate 12 team BCS conference. They mentioned BYU, TCU, SMU, Houston, Air Force and (laughably) Utah. No way Utah leaves the Pac12. I think BYU would be a good addition. I wonder why Boise St isnt mentioned. BYU, Boise St, and someone like Louisville (not far from Mizzou or Iowa St) would be a good three to add. If not Louisville, then maybe TCU or even Air Force.

Texas may want to keep it at 9, but OU wants the Big
12 to revolve less around Texas. And Texas, like OU, just found out after knocking on every conference's door, that its options are limited dragging TT with it and the LHN.
So Texas and OU are stuck with each other in the Big 12. Should add to the red river shootout.
BTW, i doubt any non Texas member of the Big 12 would vote to add any new members from the state of Texas. They may be stupid-but they arnt dumb. Any Texas school added is another Texas injun.
