Why would Boise State put their program in the Big East

That would be some really bad travel for all sports.

Because Big East is looking to expand, still mostly easy competition and an AQ conference.

Boise just wants the automatic BCS slot.

AQ=AQ...why wouldn't you want your program to be an AQ?

Yup, a BCS slot makes it worth their while.

I get that they want the automatic bid to the BCS, but geez it seems like they'd lose more money than they'd get in the BCS with all that travel. It can't be cheap to send your women's volleyball team to Storrs, CT.

It would be a football-only membership, which creates its own set of problems for Boise because who actually wants them if you aren't getting their football program?

From my understanding, they'd have to put their other sports in a conference that doesn't play football per NCAA rules. I doubt conference that don't play football are too picky about their members.
Also it makes perfect sense for Boise as it's not only an AQ, but it's also easily more money than they're making now.

Boise has other sports people care about?

If super conferences form you need to get into an aq conference asap before it's to late. I'd think Boise would strive for big 12 or pac 12

Actually travel wouldn't be all that bad for football only. Assuming an 8-game schedule, we would have 4 regional OOC opponents (already have a 12-year series with BYU), and 4 games at home, so we're only traveling back east for 4 games, and even then if Air Force, Houston and/or SMU were invited, that could make travel even less of an issue.
It sounds like the WAC is interested in taking our other sports. Fun fact nobody will care about but I'll say anyway, our wrestling program is in the Pac-12.
But yes, BCS access and access to better bowls is a huge, huge plus, as is better competition. Every Boise State fan is tired of blasting away the conference teams we're locked into playing. Hopefully if we join the Big East + a better OOC schedule, we'll have a very solid schedule in the future, which would really energize our fanbase like never before.

AQ conference and it sounds like Air Force, SMU, and Houston are all coming in too so that sorta lessens the blow in terms of travel costs (not much, but a little.)

Well, its basicly the Mountain West with an automatic BCS bid. The competition is only marginally better than the MW once you throw out WVU (who wants in the SEC
or ACC)
It's a perfect storm for Boise. They get to keep their cupcake schedule, get more money from the conference, and get their automatic BCS bid since they will probably win the BigE Championship every year.

well, if you actually do that (have a solid and challenging schedule that is), more power to you. y'all are an exciting program and i would like to see you play more than one or two "real games" a year or maybe another way to put it is that i'd like to see other top programs play you. y'all are an enigma on the national scene and a challenging schedule would put this PC bullshite to rest.

Really? I thought there were some SEC teams that played in CUSA for sports that the SEC doesn't sponsor (like men's soccer, lacrosse, etc.). CUSA plays football, but the SEC teams still play football in the SEC.

So Big East for Football and West Coast Conference for all other sports?
could that be what happens?
could that be what happens?
