Guess Wiki was wrong then.

Actually, I was wrong. The lesson is my memory of college foobtall history isn't as good as I thought it was. I would have lost money on that bet.

No blood no foul. Back to the point, how do you go back to back undefeated and NOT win the MNC?

Boise needs to prove it DURING the season, see the injuries in the SEC this year! I just want someone to shut them up in the MNC so I can stop hearing about them.

As long as they continue winning, you're going to hear about them. One loss, especially in the national championship game, wouldn't negate everything they're done over the last five years. We quit hearing about Miami and Florida State when they quit winning and that's what it's going to take for Boise State to drop from the national consciousness. Hell, look at how quickly TCU dropped off the radar.

Typo I think.

IMO, one loss in the big game will shut up the Boise thing. Miami and FSU proved it in the big game. If they get a shot and win, we have whole other story.

I don't know what you mean by "shut up", but did losing to Auburn last year shut up the Oregon thing?

wasn't that back in the day when the MNC was determined before the bowls by one of the polls?

I'm pretty sure 69 is the year Dick Nixon awarded Texas the MNC after they came from behind to beat Arkansas.

you mean like when they played and beat OU in possibly the best Fiesta Bowl ever?

Yes, but it was based on the AP and Coaches Poll. Often there were multiple champions in the same season.

I don't know that tricky Dick was solely responsible. But if you want to start removing national championships based on those merits, you should start with the worst offender: Alabama.

How Penn State didn't get the MNC in either 68 or at least 69 is beyond me.

Why would they have gotten it over Ohio State or Texas?

they could've played against the texas/arkansas winner in the 70 cotton bowl if they wanted to... but joepa opted for missouri in the orange instead.
